Would you agree with the school day being extended for/increased by 90 minutes? If so, why and if not, why not? (Please provide supportive statements for your reason(s).

If the school day were to be extended for 90 minutes how should those minutes be spent? Seriously… Think about it. What activities would you add minutes to and how many minutes would you add to each? What additional/new activities would you want added to the day and how much time do you believe should be spent on them? The total should be 90 minutes.

Please put thought into this. Please use proper grammar, punctuation, and correct spelling. I would like to share as many comments as possible so people across the Internet can see what you are thinking about this issue.

On September 11, 2001 I was working in the Computer Lab Room 212 when one of my colleagues knocked on the door and said that a plane had just hit one of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. As news came in throughout the day I would learn of the terrorist attack and the many people who perished in New York, Washington D.C. and a field in Pennsylvania. I remember being in sort of a daze because it was so unbelievable that this awful attack happened on U.S. soil.

You were very young on 9/11/01. What have you learned in school or at home about this event? Have members of your family or teachers talked about it with you? What have they said? What do you know about the events that occurred on September 11, 2001? Do you think it is important that we remember this day? Why or Why not?

Please submit a publishable comment.

When I was in elementary school, especially in 7th and 8th grades, all I could think about was getting to high school! What do you think of when you think of high school? What do you think it will be like? What kinds of things would you like to do during your high school years? Do you already have a high school in mind?

Please submit a comment that expresses your ideas about high school. This comment should be at least one paragraph long. Be sure to use all English grammar rules, paying special attention to capitalization, spelling, and sentence structure. Read over your comment carefully before submitting. If there are several errors, your comment will not be posted. Also, when you post please use only your first name and last initial and add your room number (i.e. Kylie N. – 306)

I recently watched a movie about Cyber-bullying on the Family Channel. As a parent and teacher I was really amazed at how far these fictional characters went with their mean remarks and behavior toward students that they did not like. I remember being a teenager and witnessing bullying – but it was always face to face. I find it disturbing that on the Internet and using social networks people can bully others that they don’t even know. They may have never seen or spoken to the victim before. They are just typing on a computer and they have no face. As an Internet and Social Network (Facebook) user I can see how this could happen though. It takes some maturity to use these tools and believe me, not all of the scary things that go across these networks come from young people (SMH).

I am attaching a couple of links that I want you to read and think about.  Click on these links: “ll Facts About Cyber Bullying” and “Cyberbullying – Personal Stories” (do not post to this site, only read the stories) and “Cyberbullying in Illinois”. Once you have finished the articles please share a comment regarding cyber-bullying, what you know about it and you may have experienced. If the information is sensitive I will not use your name – just request that it be anonymous. Please remember when you post comments use complete sentences, correct grammar and spelling and review your writing to make sure that it makes sense. Posts that are not acceptable will not be shared on the blog and you will not receive full credit. Thank you in advance for sharing your ideas!

Mrs. Norman

I am very excited to be working with the middle school this year. We will begin with using word processing applications. This will build the foundation and improve your skills with creating documents for assignments that you may receive in reading, writing, social studies, and science classes. We will discuss formatting and grammar rules. We will also work on saving documents and submitting them to teachers electronically through e-mail. Please go to the Middle School Software Application Survey 2011 and complete it honestly and accurately.

Thank you!

Mrs. Norman
